As we hit the milestone of 100 subscribers, we celebrate not just the number but also the infinite potential that this community holds. It is fitting then, that today's reflection takes us into the heart of an enduring debate between my co-founder Josh and me - a debate about infinity and how it governs us. It was a debate sparked by the most profound question of all - the existence of a creator.
It all began with my proposition, a thought deeply rooted in my perspective of the cosmos. "Infinity does not need a creator," I declared one afternoon, as we sat engrossed in our routine brainstorming sessions. Josh, ever the skeptical inquirer, rebutted, "God must exist because there is no reference to Him not existing."
In Josh's view, the cosmos, like everything else we know, has a clear pattern - a start and a finish. He drew parallels to the rising and setting of the sun - the perfect example of life's cyclical pattern. To him, even the universe, as understood by anthropocentric perspectives, must have had a beginning - a start that he believed was sparked by God Himself, or a “Creator” as we call it.
I pondered over his words. According to his logic, he stated that we have no reference for God not existing. But to me, the reference did exist. "Infinity," I replied, as a smile crept onto my face, "Infinity is my reference."
Contrary to Josh's view, I argued that our experiences of starts and finishes were limited by our human perceptions and comprehension. What if our universe is not as we perceive it but, in reality, is infinite?
"Everything in this universe," I said, "is infinite. From the smallest particles to the largest galaxies, from the birth of stars to their spectacular deaths, the cosmos is engaged in a continuous cycle of transformation. The very idea of a start or an end is a human construct, limited by our understanding."
And then came the question that underpinned my argument. "If everything in this universe is infinite and if infinity is the only reference we have, how can a creator exist?"
The room was quiet for a moment, as we let the weight of the question hang in the air. It was not a conversation ender, but rather a conversation starter. An opening for us to explore new thoughts, challenge our beliefs, and navigate the endless cosmos of ideas.
As we now stand at our 100th subscriber milestone, we invite you into this endless cosmos. Let's celebrate not just our growth, but also the infinite potential we all possess. Let's keep asking questions, seeking answers, and exploring the vast landscape of ideas, for that's what brings us together in this wonderful community. Because, in the end, isn't that what infinity is all about?
